Man in the saddle

Leaving everything behind and setting off - towards a raw adventure, free from rules, stress and relationship problems. For many just a dream, but journalist Paul van Hooff does it. His plan: with his faithful companion 'Guus', a Moto Guzzi V7 from 1975, touring from the northernmost point of Alaska to the southernmost point of Argentina. Along the way he sleeps in his tent along the road or in dirt-cheap guesthouses. He searches for gold, has a liaison dangereuse with a guerrilla fighter and follows the trail of Che Guevara. Van Hooff lives his dream - in a story that reads like a road novel. But during his motorcycle journey across the American continents, his past slowly starts to catch up with him. What does freedom actually mean in this day and age? How free and unbound is he really? Isn't his adventure just an escape? At the end of his journey, a surprise awaits him that will change his life forever. Journalist Paul van Hooff (1964) wrote for the KRO, Haagse Post, Nieuwe Revu, Alert and the GPD magazines, among others, before he focused on the specialisms of motorcycle and broadcasting journalism. He made reports about his journey through the American continents for Motor Magazine, MotoPort Magazine, Humo, Revu, Rails, Onze Wereld and the AD
